Far too often,I have seen business managers or team heads seat at meetings and reel out instructions based on decisions they have singularly taken!!! Then they spend the rest of the project life wondering why the Team isn’t keying fully into what he wants….can I get a witness?? Lol
One of the major reason or explanation for this scenario is that the Team hasn’t yet taken OWNERSHIP of the project!!! A leader must transfer ownership to each and every team member…that way they can run easily with the vision!! One way to carry team members along is by the principle of SYNDICATE REASONING!!!! what is a syndicate?”An association of people or firms authorized to undertake a duty or transact specific business. ” Now imagine when this association of people come together to rub minds together as regards a project or assignment.
Syndicate Reasoning is simply when every individual in a team brings forward ideas and counter-ideas and this goes on until the final idea is produced! In doing this, everyone contributes and everyone has a sense of ownership of the final idea which makes executing the idea a lot more effective!!! Mmm!
I recall years ago the send forth party for one of Africa’s Banking Icons ,Tony O. Elumelu and speaker after speaker eulogized this Phenomenon..One thing I noticed is that everyone referred to the way He always got his team involved in syndicate reasoning …..No wonder his banking career has been characterized by growth and amazing results!
So today,practice syndicate reasoning….be a true team player because that is what distinguishes you as a leader………
