Great morning Champs,
It’s Monday and a great day to be alive! Another opportunity to do “it” better!!
I got an email towards the end of last month from a gentleman who wanted me to speak with him through a situation he was going through. Kindly note that I have his full authorization to share his story howbeit real names withheld.
Let’s call him Jeff…..Jeff is an architect, trained in a leading University in the north central axis of Nigeria and has been practicing for about 8 years in a private firm with he functions as a mid level manager. Married with a daughter, Jeff is perhaps what society as it is would term as being successful…. A good career, a wonderful family, some assets and money in the bank et al. Hmmmm. One day Jeff wakes up in the morning at about 4am and finds himself deeply unhappy and troubled. He doesn’t know what to make of it and feels absolutely no excitement or joy at the prospect of yet another day in the office. Something had shifted…he goes to work that day, as he does over the next two and a half years, with a gnawing ache in his heart and a rapidly dwindling passion for his job. Jeff just doesn’t understand it. He doesn’t understand why the same job he had all these years no longer excited him. In just a few months, this same sinking feeling had crept into his personal life and was reflecting in his relationships. Maggie,Jeff’s wife, knew there was something wrong but was clueless as to what it was…She felt it after all she had known for a long time now.. See,he wasn’t argumentative or mean at all..no no no,he was more of being detached and withdrawn…he laughed but there was always that sigh that came after…..Something had shifted .. Jeff wasn’t happy…Jeff was slipping into depression!!
The situation was perhaps confusing for a number of reasons….first of all, Jeff had always and still loved architecture but now found himself not liking his job which was confusing because the question would be what the difference between his job and architecture is…..secondly, because he still showed up everyday and did his work every single day, nobody would ever had thought that Jeff was having what he called a “situation”…. nobody looked beyond the smile, the scent of the cologne, the leather dashboard of the brand new car to the “situation ” beneath………….
Jeff had a situation……
